I was trying to make a DSL-specific icon set, something different from the gentoo round ones.  I'd originally created them with a hazy reflection under them, figuring they were png so you'd get a nice effect, but it seems that the desktop doesn't support alpha trasnparency apart from "transparent" or "not transparent". :(
All those wasted hours...
The current ones still have alpha on the "box" of the icon, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to work...
Would have been much nicer if I could have found large versions of each of the icon symbols to scale down, most of them I had to scale up, work on the icon, then scale down, so they look pretty crappy compared to Firefox, the GIMP, etc.

This Screenshot is not mine. But can someone help me identify the apps he used to get the news feed (east side), and the system info (west side) and the battery indicator (south side). The weather info uses Karamba. I think the live newfeed on background is way too cool, cant wait to get my hands one those.

And how do you guys make your apps windows looks transparent?

I think that's all karamba.

Transparent windows are most often done with terminal apps in aterm.  The latest fluxbox also allows you to set transparency for other windows...just the decoration, though, not the inner window.

ATerm is the simplest way.  Just get aterm.dsl.  Comes pre-configured with about 50% transparency, but you can always fiddle with the settings.

PS.  The word I was looking for to describe the icons and icon reflections was "translucent".  I made them translucent, but the desktop only seems to make everything opaque.

Most of what I see there are called gtk "Desklets" , and are very resource intensive.
I have dabbled with them , for their "cool" factor...
Require lots of libs and deps..
