hi everybody.
i'm pretty new to linux - been playing with suse for about a month and that was all.
today i decided to ressurect my old machine and  tried DSL on it..
have to say that it looked really scarry at first.. but i managed to do a HD install and everything seems to work prefect!

i just love it!  :D

Well this Distro is pretty bull***t free, no wonder its damn small. A distro like this is so much easier for getting to grips with linux. I've been fiddling with it & touching it in special places & its clean & simple, not 'lacking'. Which is good, if you get my drift.

One of the best thing about this distro is that you can configure it cleanly with apt-get.

So far I have added the following to my system with apt-get
man-db
samba
swat
bluefish
LinNeighborhood
The Gimp
synaptic
aterm

and they are all working great on a Pentium 233MX with 64MB EDO RAM and a 6 Gig HD, Sierra Screamin 3d (Rendition 1000) video card, Generic 6X CD-ROM, Belkin 10/100 network card (Realtek 8139 - free from OfficeMax after $5.00 rebate!).
Perfect little samba and web server.

No extra stuff that I don't need. leaves the hard drive uncluttered and available for files, etc.

Cappy - DSL is marvelous, to be sure. Question re your apt-getting Synaptic - did you have to jump through any hoops to make this happen? When I try to apt-get Synaptic on my system (DSL 0.6.2 installed to the hard drive), I get the following:

----------
Some packages could not be installed...

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  synaptic: Depends: libapt-pkg-libc6.2-3-2-3.2
E: Broken packages
----------

For fun I tried apt-getting libapt-pkg-libc6.2-3-2-3.2 and got:

----------
Note, selecting apt instead of libapt-pkg-libc6.2-3-2-3.2
apt is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded.
----------

Not sure what I'm doing wrong or not doing right. I should mention my severe n00bicity, but I'm working on the Linux way of doing things (and loving DSL).

...and the picture is of Fuad Ramses from the film "Blood Feast".
