I am trying to use my usb flash drive. I went to the mount usb option in the system menu and my drive flashes like its having data go to it, but i cant seem to save anythin to it. Can any one help?

It sounds like what dragonxx4 is looking for, is just information on mounting the usb drive, not booting. Along those same lines, any info on automating the mounting of a usb drive, and loading the settings and /home directory would be appreciated, I guess I'm looking for a mini MandrakeMove type setup. Carry all the software on a business card CD, and all my personal stuff on the usb drive, no sense wasting the space on the usb drive with the DSL software.

If your usb device is 1.1 compatible then it will work on DSL. You will need a 0.5 or better version. Be sure that the device is plugged in before power on. Use enchanced desktop and the mount tool at the bottom right corner. Click the arrows until you see usbdrive. Click the button. It should turn green. If so you are in business. The file restoration from the menu backup and restore will work, as well as the boot: knoppix restore option. This is known to work on a Lexar 256MB JumpDrive and a Kingston 64MB drives. DSL has had this feature before Mandrake Move. If your drive is only usb 2.0 then you will have to wait until the kernel is upgraded. If you prefer not to use the GUI tools then the command to mount it for use by user damnsmall is:

sudo mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/usbdrive -o uid=1001

thanks guys your post was helpful in telling an os x guy how to mount a usb flash drive under linux. i just used damn small linux to recover a sasser infected computer's files and it worked great. i loved it!
