Digital Hinote notebook 133mghz 40meg ram. 12.5" tft, fb800x600 res. HD installed. DSL 0.62 is a further improvement if only a cosmetic one for this user. The hard disk install has been totally problem free since v 0.60 but the ''enhanced' hd install option didn't work in this new version. Not to worry, the default standard install option kicked in and completed OK. The new GTK theme is really nice it's given the apps a new lease of life with Sylpheed particularly becoming much crisper as a result . I have found myself using DSL productively for work I need to do at home and it getting used more than my Win98 (newish) desktop particularly because it is actually pretty quick and uncluttered. No crashes at all. No viruses so far as I know. Everything but ABS opens up correctly sized on the screen - ABS is about 8mm oversized to each size. It is a shame as I can't access 'file' from the menu. TED is nice and easy but buggy: Ctr+V pasting pastes anything between 3 to 5 copies of what was highlighted. Wheel mouse scrolling on the screen results in layers of opaque highlighting - maybe a memory thing. TED has no undo! Not good for me! I format WORD .doc things from work into .rtf which TED opens up fine. What I am beginning to hope for are few built in install scripts eg. for Abiword 2.05, Opera (Firebird installs fine but is very slow on this machine) or even Browsex - anything small with a search engine, Rox filer, anti-virus and firewall programs. Thats it really. It nearly perfect. My attempts at manual install scripts don't seem to work. I would use Luit for the Abiword (but doesn't display) or Feather for the Opera script (modem config. doesn't work!) Highly impressed generally - a contribution is on its way shortly. Here goes with the Synaptic install script again!
