Hello,

I'm guessing in order to install java I'll need to do a HD install...is that right?

The "SysRq" button is usually an alternate for your "Print Screen" button..
Mine is located above my six pack of insert/delete group..

And the jre1_5_0.uci works well
in the liveCD and poorman's/frugal versions of DSL..
Get it in the .uci section of the repository..

I have run many java apps using this package
" /opt/jre1_5_0/bin/java /opt/whatever.jar " ..

I just got the "Linux Pocket Guide" so I'll try to decipher your post and see what I can come up with. I'm guessing I'll need to  browse to the " /opt/jre1_5_0/bin/java /opt/whatever.jar " directory and launch it....I'll mess around with it and come back if I'm getting nowhere

SysRq...never had to use it in XP...right under the printscreen button like you said

Thanks ke4nt1

Try using a swap partition or a swap file.

This will allow your computer to use virtual memory on your hard drive in the event that you run out of physical RAM.

that does not happen automatically?  How do you use a swap partition?
