Currently posting in an internet cafe with dsl-embedded 1.0rc2 on an AMD XP 3200+ (something like 1.5 GHz?) running off a new 512mb usb stick. And so easy - just unzip and launch the .bat from the WinDeath cmd line - not even a reboot needed! Had no idea that's all that was needed. Hadn't tried it before.
First impressions of 1.0rc2: wonderful, thanks very much to all the development team! Desktop looks beautiful, clean and simple and tasteful, just like we like it. (BTW glad you got rid of mp - dreadful program with its F9 block selection).
Sure, embedded runs about a zillion times slower on this games pc than does livecd toram on a PIII Coppermine (800MHz?), in fact certain things (typing in this form for eg) feel about the speed of the earliest 386's, but I expected that. At times surfing is even fast (with dillo).
But there's definitely something magical about plugging my gumstick in and there's dsl ... And to think I was bothering trying to work out the bulky Cygwin (if it could ever be downloaded without broadband) or even Unxutils just for ksh shells (the latter doesn't quite work on WinXP anyway as far as I can tell - perhaps just need to set PATH)...from now on my usb stick travels with me.
Thx team. I luv dsl.
