Today I received my "new" laptop, which is a secondhand Compac Armada Evo 600c, 1Ghz, 384 RAM, 20 GB hd. It came with Windoze XP pre-installed, but the moment I got it home i rescued the old laptop and installed DSL. Frugal, of course, with toram option. WOW! This thing rocks now! The laptop is now a killer. I installed it with a 500 MB swap disk, a 100 MB partition for the DSL image, 800 MB for the myDSL apps and the rest for /home and /opt. I hope 384 MB is enough RAM for running in toram mode... It seems like that now anyway.

This is a good day! And DSL really shines. Thanks to John, Robert, and all you other contributors for a great distro!!!

:)

reidar..

That is a very, very nice addition to your arsenal..

congrats..

You would really be 'pushing it to the limit'
to have any issues with 384MB's of ram
and a 500MB swap at your disposal..

If it were me, I'd never run it any other way BUT toram.. :)

...wishing it gives you years of faithful service...

Schweet!

Thanks guys!

This machine looks great indeed! Only pity is that I had to give away my old laptop... That's the thing with wives, don't always understand that you can keep an older toy even though you get a new one. :)

Anyway, my sister in law is now the proud owner of my old laptop (compac presario 1200, 56 RAM, 6 GB hdd), with DSL frugal installed on it of course! Call me a missionary man :)
