1. I have found that the files in etc/pcmcia/cis link to circular links in /KNOPPIX/etc/pcmcia/cis. As a result any card requiring these files probably won't work properly (if you get a message about cis/<filename>.dat not being able to be opened when cardmgr runs during bootup you have this problem). My 3Com 3CCFEM556B lan/modem card only works as a lan card unless the file 3CCFEM556.dat is placed in etc/pcmcia/cis to replace the link there.

Can the 'cis' directory please be restored to contain the actual files (or links to the actual files) in the next release. The files aren't large so there doesn't seem any real space saving. It looks like this has been an error since v0.7.3 when cardmgr was upgraded!

a workaround at the moment is to place the necessary .dat file in the 'cis' directory & back it up by listing it in .filetool.lst so it is restored on reboot. The commands 'cardctl eject' & 'cardctl insert' followed by any network setup needed will then have to be included in .bootlocal.sh. This doesn't work perfectly as issuing an ifconfig command directly after 'carctl insert' tends to fail as the card hasn't initialised by the time the ifconfig command is issued & so the interface isn't recognised

To do this download the pcmcia_cs system from sourceforge:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/pcmcia-cs - it doesn't matter if it's not the same version as in dsl (v3.2.2).
Extract the .dat files for directory cis.
Start emelfm as root
Delete the links in /etc/pcmcia/cis for the .dat files
Copy the extracted .dat files to /etc/pcmcia/cis
Close emelfm
Start emelfm normally (i.e. as user dsl)
Browse to /etc/pcmcia/cis
Select .dat files & click add2filetool button
Edit /opt/.bootlocal.sh to add lines:
cardctl eject
cardctl insert

Editing bootlocal.sh may be able to be avoided by not inserting the card until dsl has finished booting (then the correct files will be in 'cis')

2. Using the cheatcode 'dsl 2' results in dsl booting as root. This creates 2 issues: first booting as root isn't a great idea anyway. second it messes up the backup/restore system as root doesn't use the same .filetool.lst file as when logged in as user dsl. Thus all the carefully backed up files are lost. (e.g. I have XF86Config-4 in etc/X11 listed inthe .filetool.lst in /home/dsl. After booting using 'DSL 2' & then rebooting normally the XF86Config-4 file is gone.
Perhaps this is a deliberate feature, but one that needs documented, or included in the description of the cheatcode.

DSL now running great on my Libretto 100, once I got the lan/modem working - now to tackle the sound system......

Does anyone know if the Sylpheed mail client will download message headers only from a pop server? I use this feature a lot in Pegasus - it's useful for binning spam before downloading messages or for filtering out messages with large attachments when using dialup. Alternatively is there another mail client that will do this?

I don't know about Sylpheed or other clients, but I know Mozilla will let you download only headers, and you can also set a maximum message size for download - a feature I use lots when I'm on dial-up (which is thankfully not often) ;o)
::Edit:: umm that should have been Mozilla Thunderbird, since I can't speak if Mozilla does or not..!

It can download headers, if you set it to in ~/.elmorc

It rocks.

you can avoid any interaction with mydsl or backup/restore.

Might be an idea to delete the contents of /opt/.backup_device
to avoid an overwrite of the backup upon shutdown as root.
