Burned the CD from damnsmall_0.6.iso, and tried to boot.  Here are the first error messages:

While in "Creating Directories and Symlinks on Ramdisk" there are two "cloop: error" messages and, "cp: reading '/knoppix/etc/localtime': input/output error".

The boot continues, even through the hardware detection, without problems until...  The last thing that seems to go right is "Recovering nvi editor sessions...done".

Then this:
INIT:  PANIC segmentation violation at 0x804e19a!  sleeping for 30 seconds.

The boot comes to a dead stop at that point.  I've tried several different boot options, including failsafe, with the same result.

The computer is a standard PIII Dell with 384MB RAM, and a GeForce4 MX 440 graphics card.  It doesn't have any trouble with Knoppix or Flonix.

Any ideas?

Have you checked your md5sum? It sounds like a bad download.

Thanks for the reply.  Too bad I deleted the iso file after burning the disk or I could check the md5.  I'll try again this week and see if a second download is any better.

I have not made the general announcement for 0.6 because there is a bad iso sitting on the ibiblio system right now.

Well, that probably explains it.  :D  When I got to the downloads, I naturally selected the iso with the highest version number.

I should have access back on the T1 line sometime in the next couple of weeks to download the previous release.  And I'll keep an eye out for news of the "official" 6.0 release on OSNews and DistroWatch.

Thanks,
-Bob
