.

Congratulations, the developement of DSL it's just Fantastic

For the past few years I've gone from wrking as a plasterer and lookin for a linux distro to play around with in my spare time, to workin as an IT professional and using DSL on my laptop at home and now as a tool at work.

I'm prmpted to write this post because this week I had a large migration of data to perform and the Windows utility Robocopy failed on a number of directories. I was trying to copy some data from one server to another remotely, but it failed. I connected to the source server to see what was wrong to find that I couldn't see the security tab on the folder properties for the directories in question. Neither could I rename or delete them on the server. I googled my trouble and the Microsoft KB wasnt much help either. So I was stuck.

You know where I'm going with this dont you! I've read many testimonials from very happy system admins praising the ability of the tiny and not so tiny live and conventional distros out there, but this week I lived it for myself.
I was able to use DSL with samba (LinNeibourhood) to mount a share and manipulate the troublesome folders on my NTFS remote server partition.

So I just wanted to say that I'm very happy that I've got a bootable litle distro that can. Thank you very much to everyone involved in the developement of DSL.

Keep up the good work and you can count on me for every type of support in the future.

Regards

A happy DSL'er

I second that. DSL IS fantastic!

My approach to Linux, DSL and computers in general may be slighty different than most Linux users, I guess. (I actually think I know diddley about computers compared to most regulars on any Linux forum), but I still think it was the easiest in the world to install and run DSL. I have wanted to switch from Windows to Linux for a long time but never had the courage to take the jump. Now, after reading about the wonders of Linux for the last three weeks, including pages after pages of documentations (nothing comes easy), I finally felt I was ready for the transition, mostly because there´s so much help to get in this super community, but also on most other Linux boards as well.

Hey, this is my first post and it is made from my new DSL distro less than one hour after the installation so how hard can it be, folks! Forget about Ubuntu and Mandrake. I couldn´t get them to work. With DSL everything seems like a breeze. Wow! I just can´t help myself falling in love with this fast and light distro. The best distro I´ve tried so far.

Thanks to the DSL team, in particular, and all the active people involved on these forums for making this newbie more familiar with DSL and Linux. You all rock!

Icarus,
A happy DSL newbie.
