I'm wanting to install DSL on my old Toshiba laptop.  I can boot from the floppy and log in as root but what do I do next?  I'm at the "pound sign" and I can run linux commands like "ls" but I'd like to get to a GUI or a desktop.  What is available from the floppy?  How do I do a full install of DSL?  I'm a linux newbie and don't know a lot about computers so I need some "hand-holding".  Thanks.

Try "su - dsl", and then if the gui is not automatically started after it switches you to user dsl, use the "startx" command.  Typically the DSL system does this automatically in runlevel 5, but you are apparently using runlevel 2.
