I have an nforce2 based ASUS mainboard and an nvidia based ASUS graphics card and an BenQ LCD monitor. I'm hit by the issue with X not starting if cable are plugged in onboard LAN. However, this is a different issue:

I downloaded 2.4 today, started it with "dsl toram" with the LAN cable out, replugged it after fluxbox was up and running. All was working hunky dory. After a while I left the machine for 15-20 minutes. When I got back the screen were blank. I assumed it's some powersaving modus - but, alas, no amount of movement of mouse or pressing on keyboard keys can bring the screen back to life (wireless USB mouse and keyboard, BTW). I know DSL was still up and running as I had XMMS playing radio and the soundstream continued.

Any idea?

Yes. Thanks, that worked. DSL running over night now, no problem.

However, if the screensaver knocks out the display with no other option for recovery than a full reboot, then I would describe it as a pretty bad bug.....

On my Dell 505 laptop (ahem, mine did I say..?, Ok company's laptop), pressing the Esc key brings it back to life - if that was not one of the keys you tried.

Unfortunately, only disabling screensaver seems to help....
