One option is to delete everything other than convert, libMagic, and libWand. This would bring the size down to about 3mb uncompressed. I don't know of any other commandline image tools that are definitely known to work in DSL.
Another point i should make is that since it's a uci it will not decrease your available ramdisk space, so that's something to consider.
