I'm gonna guess that you're either out of memory or out of space of some sort or the download was corrupted (check md5sum)
(I'm assuming you're referring to the extension in mydsl>system here). /usr/bin/7z should use /usr/lib/p7zip/7z. Since /usr/bin/7z is just a wrapper, it won't do anything if you copy it there...
But since you're running a debian-style non-frugal hd install, you should consider using apt-get (or unc's?)
(misc: actually this extension's been updated - just not posted yet, and is now using /opt - but you shouldn't get these results now anyways)
