Hello

I have been using DSL for sometimes and I like it. Every now and then I try a different program but always come back. I am mostly a window user, but do appreciate Linux.

I use dsl on my work laptop (dell). The thing I most appreciate from dsl is the ability to load it in the RAM and use any work laptop without letting any trace.

I like to enjoy a lean system that quickly loads a top notch browser

One thing that I would like to improve is Firefox display. Its good but could be much better when you compare with XP. Anything I could do to improve display?

I guess I need to be more specific. My laptop at work is a dell latitude d600. I use it wireless with a linksys wpc xx v4 using ndiswrapper and the rt8180 inf

All that works good.

The browser display is quite minimal basic when compare to other linux system like slax, ubuntu, xubuntu, puppy. I have tried them all and they all look nicer. I wonder what is missing in my dsl to get a similar look.

I have been using dsl on an occasionnal basis since 2003-04. I am now quite familiar with many process and I am reluctant to change system. DSL offers everything I want except for a nice display on the browser.

I am looking for an explanation? or even better for a tip on how to improve. I suspect it has to do with the compact size of it?

You're likely not getting any replies due to the fact that no one understands what you are talking about.

At least, I don't.

What do you mean by minimal display?  Is FireFox missing some features that you've found in other distros?  Is it color resolution?  Something else?

Keep in mind that the FireFox in DSL is ver. 1.0, while all of the larger distros ship with 1.5 or higher.  Well, except maybe for Puppy, but I ain't used it much.

You might also consider that DSL does not have scalable anti-aliased fonts, which make a big difference in what pages look like.

Tks Milkshaw

Thats probably why. The font itself are not as smooth and therefore the whole thing looks a bit rough.

ubuntu gives a better look. I am doing some experimentation with slax. Not bad at all for a small distro. Minds you its size is double vs DSL
