Are you using a liveCD/frugal install, or is DSL fully installed to your harddrive? Installing software can be quite different depending on how you use DSL.
Styles which are obtained from the myDSL repository are installed like any other extension (mydsl-load). If you've downloaded styles from other sources, you'd probably just extract the archive into ~/.fluxbox/styles, reload your fluxbox configuration, and then choose the style from your desktop menu. You may need to modify the "rootCommand" line in some style files.
