Here is what I did to make my 5200 work.
When the CD boots and you get the command prompt while the small penguin is displayed at the top left of the screen, press F2.
The screen will change and show you some options.
Type this:
fb1024x768
then press enter. This works for my 19 inch monitor and 5200.
You can try the other fb (frame buffer) options to suit your fancy.
Yes, you can instruct DSL (damnsmalllinux) to change display settings when booting from CD. Trust me.
Also, do some searching on the forums, but be sure to read all the areas for input in the search fields.
