It is possible that a memory leak exists in Xvesa, or maybe some programs do not play nice with the Xserver and prevent it from releasing memory when no longer needed.
Is there a specific application that causes the memory usage for Xvesa to grow continuously after repeated startup / exit / startup cycles of the same application?
If not, any details of this leak should be reported to freedesktop.org developers although they will probably complain that the Xvesa server version that is used in DSL is too old for them to debug and fix.
In the meantime, you might be able to protect against crashes by setting up a swap file or a swap partition.
