hi there,
been using dsl for a week or two on an old laptop with great success, however i am having trouble using it on my pc which has a 3dfx voodoo3 2000 card and a packard bell pnp a520 monitor.
i can boot into linux and use the framebuffer x server (i forget the name), however this is only possible when i am using a vga mode of 640x480 or 800x600 in 256 colors, which, while usable, seems strange as both the card and the monitor are capable of 1024x768x32 in windows (edit: can actually use 1024x768 in 256 colors, if thats any help. didn't realise before...). on a side note, it is only in these vga modes that the linux logo is shown just before the boot process starts. in any other vga mode, i get a fatal io error 104 error (connection reset by peer) when i run startx, regardless of which x server i use.
i have tried using the xfree86 package to no avail and tried many different vga modes to try and find the problem, however, i have found nothing.
any suggestions would be very welcome.
thanks in advance ,
