Hi, i am having some trouble getting correct screen resolution and color using DSL.

I am running an old HP Omnibook 800cs with screen res 800x600 and either 64k colors or 256 i dont know which.

No matter what setting i use for the vga on start up  nothing seems to work. Sometimes it tells me that i passed an undefined mode number and says i can veiw availible video modes or continue. When i veiw the modes it gives me a list of row by column screen sizes to choose from, of which 80x25 works the best. The closest i have gotten is on 8 bit color settings with 800x600 res and that gave me semi clear screen with distorted colors and horrilbe pictures.

I am totaly stuck and any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well, it's not a GOOD solution, but switch to 800x600x4 and style to minimal. Mucnh more readable colors.

Try booting again with 'fb800x600' typed in at the first boot prompt.  Then at the video menu box, choose 'framebuffer' video server instead of 'vesa'. then choose 'no' for USB mouse, then yes for ps2 mouse, choose keyboard nationality then you're in.  My old 800x600 res. 12.1" TFT notebook has allways displayed perfectly with this (particularly Abiword)
Any luck?
