After trying this suggestion I searched the net and came up with this page:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-laptop/2003/01/msg00312.html

Having to do with the 2.4 kernel and pcmcia cards

I changed the PCIC line in /etc/default/pcmcia
to
PCIC=yenta_socket
rebooted
netcardconfig

resulting in the same error
No supported network cards found <OK>

I don't know if this helps you to troubleshoot this problem.

Thanks for your help

Sorry I missed your last two comments, (didn't refresh the page) I'll reset the pcmcia file back to it's original setting and try your suggestion.

Thanks it worked!
I plugged the card in to the bottom slot, turned off the bios plug and play. Then modprobe, netcardconfig as you suggested.

Thanks for your help!!
