hello damn guys,

I'm not a linux guru at all, and some of you may be thinking this is a stupied question, but is it possible to reduce the size of the DSL and get rid of stuff I do not need, like firefox, XMMS, Dillo web browser, spreadsheet, Sylpheed email and some hardwarechecks like cdrom...??

....well it's rather easier to tell you what I actually need :-)

I will need to run (S)DSL on a touch screen operating terminal (like this ).
it has a NS-Geode 300 MHz and it is booting from compact falsh card. I allready got the DSL 2.0 successfully running. almost everything is fine (except the touchscreen).
but the only thing what is supposed to run is a java application on startup. further it has to have network interface with a static IP, ftp, ssh or telnet daemon, a module for the touchscreen and a JRE (1.4 or higher).

I appreciate every comment which helps me with may task. thanx in advanced.

PS: sorry there is a copy/paste mistake in the topic, admin please remove "http://www.lauer-system", thank you!

1.) Use the default DSL install.  Unless you get a GREAT deal on 32MB flash cards, just buy larger cards.  If you really want to do it, search the forums for the keyword "remastering"

2) You may need to install the Xfree86.dsl extension and XFree touchscreen driver to get it to work with your touch screen.

3) You can configure DSL out-of-the-box for static IP, ftp and ssh daemons

4) There is a jre 1.5 extension located in the UCI section or in the System section of the MyDSL repository.  You may need to specify alternative JAVA path environment variables because the JRE is located in the /opt/ directory (not located in the usual place).

hej, thanx for the good hints.
I'm using a 128mb CF card and I installed a usb-zip dsl. so I have two partitions. I use the hda2 for backup and mydsl extenz.
I tried installing the XFree86 and a touchscreen driver. but how can I get this saved on the hda2? pls anybody give me the final hit to come on that.

thx ia

and also...the XFree86 is not running properly. in xvesa, which is running perfectly, 800x600x24) I configure 24 bit color, in XFree86 it just allows me to use 8 bit.
anyway there are just weird things on the X (4 cloned desktops, very thin and not very high). it may be because I do not know the exact hardware properties :-(
is there a way to see in xvesa-config something which helps me for the XFree86-config?

I found out that my touch is
Dynapro Microtouch Dynaclear PL8 ( HCG12 ) 12" resistive 8
does anyone know a driver/module for such a touchscreen
thx in advanced
nice weekend
