i have a DSL 2.1 embedded install on my 256 MB flash drive working fine i would like to know if there is a way of making DSL ask for a username and password before you can access a desktop of any kind

I couldn't say if this works in embedded, but i don't see any particular reason why it wouldn't:

This is not official documentation, and is not supported by the developers of DSL...it's just something i do myself, and it works for me. If your system gets killed as a result, fortunately DSL is an easy install.
