Is it possible to have a splash screen during bootup or is the functionality not built into the kernel?

I *think* the kernel supports it, but the actual bootsplash application and files are not present in DSL (might need to rebuild initrd as well?). As far as I know, the KNOPPIX file would need to be remastered, or a traditional harddrive install used, if you want to incorporate it into DSL.

According to Bootsplash.org

after patching the kernel it should just need to be enabled:

Go to "Console drivers" -> "Frame-Buffer support" and select "VESA VGA graphics console" (or possibly another framebuffer driver, if one is available for your graphics hardware) and turn on "Use splash screen instead of boot logo".

However, these options don't even show up under Console Drivers. I've tried with a 2.4.26, 2.4.30 and 2.4.32 kernel but I don't see the options.
