Hi all- I recently bought a stripped down old-as-hell laptop to rebuild. My ultimate goal is to get DSL installed on the HD... but...I've been trying to boot using SBM (Smart BootManager) since the BIOS doesn't support booting directly from the cd-rom drive, and I want to run DSL live before I bother installing it... Trouble is, I get a "disk error (0xAA)" when using SBM to boot from the cd-rom drive, and after googling around, I get the feeling that the CD/ROM I/O ports aren't correctly being detected...so there's an option to specify them manually (in Hex) but the problem is...how do I find the correct I/O ports to use?
I realize this doesn't directly relate to linux (hence my posting in the misc. forum), but I really want to get DSL up and running...truth be told, I really just want to play around and experiment (I've never done a fresh install all by myself), but ANY help would be immensely appreciated...Thanks in advance!
