Hi,

Thx for the help on my other issues. I think I've figured out the mounting thing now...but a new problem has arisen...I keep downloading games, openoffice.org, etc. to my hard drive, but I can't seem to open them. It works fine if I download them to /randisk but I'm guessing that's my ram and it will fill up pretty fast if I keep doing that. Plus, things on the ram get deleted when the computer's turned off so it's not much use to download things to it.

Dude...it would be a whole lot more helpful if you used proper sentence structure. I know I use a lot of dots (...) myself, but there are times when they are appropriate and times when they are not. Reading your posts is like talking to a guy who's on coke.

Jeremy already said that things in /ramdisk disappear, so that's obviously either live CD or frugal.

If you're having trouble saving to a permanent location because of file permissions, you can download to ramdisk and then transfer the software to the permanent location as root. Another option is to use a persistent /home (boot option "home=hda1", for example) or backup/restore system, which would allow your personal files to remain intact after a reboot.
When you say you "can't open them", what exactly do you mean? What have you done to try opening them?
And finally, what are you trying to download? Is it myDSL software or something else?

Just in case you are tying to use the MyDSL icon on your desktop to get apps/programs, try this: MyDSL: Installing Extensions

lovdsl: I didn't mean that you didn't have useful help...it's just extremely difficult to follow when we don't know where one thought ends and the next begins. There was no need to delete =o)

In any case, you've been very active here lately and you should know it is appreciated.
