Hallo,
I guess, it is almost impossible to install kde as WM in DSL because of dependency problems.
Linux needs libraries in order to install apps. Supported libraries depend on the version of the kernel (tip uname -a in an xterm window in order to get the version of the kernel of dsl). The kernel is the basis of your system. Current kernels are 2.6.x; dsl uses a 2.4.x kernel, so an older one. Thus, DSL probably doesn't support all of the libraries that kde wants in order to be installed. Please remember, I am just guessing this; you probably will have a better deal with an expert like one of the very well informed members of the dsl community.
For these reasons, however, dsl can be kept very small. An older kernel gives you also a lot of advantages in terms of recognition of older devices. It is also one of the best system (in my opinion) if you are mobile and if you want to use apps optionally, i.e. without installing them permanently in the system. Finally, the toram option let you run dsl out of your ram; it means: no viruses dangers and a rocket in your pc. And a lot more... just discover and enjoy!
yours z
