Hi, I'm a programmer for a non-profit organization called WiderNet (www.widernet.org). We take snapshots of educational/free/public domain content on the Internet, index it, and stick it onto a hard drive (called an eGranary) with an Apache proxy using mod_rewrite to act as an "internet in a box" for schools, libraries, etc. in third world countries with no access to the internet.
We're starting a new project to put versions of the eGranary onto a live CD/DVD instead of a hard drive, and DSL is an excellent candidate for this (50MB for the OS means 600 MB for our snapshot). My question for the community is: can DSL do the proxy/rewrite? Has anyone tried it before, or set up something similar? Is anyone willing to put together a version of DSL that will do this?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts. Bob
