I want to download a file the size of a CD, and then burn it. When I was in live install, I could not eject the DSL cd to replace it with a blank CDr. So I booted to ram. Then I could eject the CD. However when I try to download the file, there is the download window, and in it it says "all downloads to desktop". It always dissappears along with firefox after it has downloaded about 100 or so meg. I guessed I should have it download to the hard disk. But I cannot see any option. How do I download this correctly? (And please I only understand simple language as I am not a computer person.)
Thank you very much
Justin

in firefox go >edit>preferences>downloads. where it says download folder, you select ask me or use the browse button to go to where you want it saved to. when saving to hd make sure you mount it first so you can access it, it also has to be a fat or linux partion.

sorry i've been slow to respound i've been having problems with my isp. hopefully it's all good now so i can respound faster.

Hi Kerry
Thank you very much for your response. Also did you see my post " HD install failed and now hda5 and hda7 have gone! "? Until now many views but no-one has given any suggestion or ideas. Do you have any ideas?
Thank you
Best wishes
Justin

Yeah, i would say try installing on a normal partion. alot of distro's i try have problems with extended partions.  did you grab a copy of gparted? you can use that to see visually how your partions are set up, it's much easier to work with partions using that live cd. here's the link again-> http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php
