I am unable to enable dma on a hard disk that I know supports it.
Code Sample | hdparm -d1 /dev/hda setting using_dma to 1 (on) HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted using_dma = (off) |
yes I am sudo-ed bash. yes I know it supports dma. I previously had this machine successfully running gentoo linux (with dma) and I can mount it that way from knopppix.
also maybe this has something to do with it?
in the console (virtual terminal)
Code Sample | Autoconfiguring Devices... *spinner* modprobe: modprobe: can't locate module block-major-2 | message repeats
