 | Quote (stewartc @ Mar. 24 2007,14:24) | | I have one small issue and that is that some of the web sites I visit do not work with earlier versions of Firefox ...... so I want to upgrade to a later version. |
Out of curiosity, what websites don't work? Do you really mean entire sites aren't "working" or do you just not have specific plug-ins required for some of them?

 | Quote | | I have downloaded the upgrade to the down loads file but I don't know how to instal the upgrade. I am sure this is a pretty basic thing to do and if someone can point me to a "How to" instuction somewhere I would appreciate it |
What did you download? Was firefox 2.0.0.3? You need to know if you have any dependency issues before you try anything -- and hats is right that the easiest way to upgrade is from MyDSL.

Here's what you have to check before you get started:

Have you upgraded to GTK2? Won't work without it.

Once you know it won't crash due to unmet dependencies, it's basically just a matter of unzipping. It'll overwrite the old files from the previous version so you're up the creek if you don't do a full back up of the files (various directories) and it doesn't work.

FWIW, I installed the latest version of SeaMonkey (GTK1 version) the other day and it's working well. Well, it's fine aside from occasionally crashing when I refuse to install the @$#% flash plug in. Easy solution for me: I'm deleting bookmarks of sites that require flash now.
