Ive just run up DSL 4.2 .. I like what I see although I realise some have not liked it.

A couple of problems. I tried to make a Boot floppy. Something wrong with this script now. It downloaded the floppy image ok and put it in /ramdisk/home/dsl fine but then when it comes to writing the image it just says xyz files in and xyz files out and does not access the floppy at all. I used the floppy tool from tools menu and formatted the floppy fine and then used it to write the IMG file and the boot floppy worked fine.

Next issue. Ive been putting optional Extentions into the /mydsl/optional folder on my USB stick but they no longer show up in the MYDSL menu accessed via the DSL button (bottom left corner). What I used to get with DSL v4 was a submenu called Optional under the MyDSL menu after clicking the DSL button.
Now the optional extensions are not at all easy to get to or particularly obvious.

I can use the MyDSL Extension tool and navigate to the optional folder and some of the Exts load and show up on the MyDSL menu but some dont. Its a bit of a mess. The Thunderbird1.5 UCI for example shows up in the MyDSL menu but will not actually run. Maybee this should be taken to the MyDSL extensions forum but it looks like its not entirely the fault of the Exts.

Ive been out of circulation for a while with developments in DSL 4.1 4.2 so I miay have missed some changes.

- would be better if you post this under the release thread
- afaik the optional thing has been discussed in that thread already
- mydsl extension issues have a subforum

What release thread ?? Normally I would post this under the release candidate thread but once the version is released Roberts locks the RC threads and there are currently none open? I just dont know where to put this sort of problem really as Ive tried to find a place for it and it ended up here.. I will now go and search the loacked down RC threads and see if there is anything about the Optional thing.. As for the boot Floppy image creator I dont know..

Are you using a RC? If not, then there's no need to try to post in there - try the release thread in site news.

Thanks I never knew that sort of stuff was in the "site news" part of the forum. I allways thought that was just about the DSL web site in general. Its not allways easy to follow other peoples thinking of what is considered logical. I will keep a close eye on this part of the forum now Ive seen it.

Looks like Roberts is on the job again. Hes released some bug fixes that look like they might be relavant DSL 4.2.1
Will now check that one out.
