nice work, i've seen screenshots and it looks great. If i write the iso to a cd, will DSL boot straight from the cd or will it need to write stuff to the hard drive??? any help will be greatly appreciated as i doubt the college IT support would like me to use it if it puts bits on the hard drive. Thanks in advance

You can boot from CD and it will not touch the hard drive.
At the first boot prompt, just press enter.

And on version 0.5 and up, if you have a floppy or usb pendrive, you can even store your setup information using the backup menu option. Then upon the next boot from CD you can at the boot prompt boot:   knoppix restore
That way you can use the system on anybodys computer without using their hard drive and still have your setup.
