Ok, hoping that there will be a "simple" way to do this. Have been reading through some of the remastering threads and it seems as if this process is made a bit too complicated and there should be a simple way to accomplish this.

Here is a scenerio

Typical PC computer

1. Computer is booted from DSL Linux CD
2. Install option selected
3. 0 to exit to prompt
4. CFDISK to get to hard disk partions
5. Delete all hd partions
6. Create HDA1 Linux Swap 400MB
7 Create HDA2 Linux
8. Exit to prompt
9. MKSWAP and SWAPON for swapfile on HDA1
10. Exit back to menu
11. Option 2 - Hard Drive install
12 Install to HDA2
13. No multiusers - yes to ext3
14 DSL installs - select Grub as booter
15 Reboot - remove CD and DSL boots now from HD
16. Install various programs, make change to xfree86 and setup desktop/browser, various installed program settings, etc. the way we want it.
17. All is good from this point.

NOW from here, this is what I am looking to do. How can I make a MYDSL CD that will install just like steps 1-14 above but will contain all the settings and programs, etc that I did in steps 15-17 - so when I get to step 15 and the system boots, it already has all these items exactly like they are at step 17?

that will let you add pretty much anything you want to dsl and create an iso. if you also want to remove things from dsl, that's when mkmydsl isn't enough.

In regards to what I wrote above - I took a look at that thread and it is not extremely clear on more exact steps to achieve exactly what were are looking to do here

So have a look at this.

Say you are on the PC that you just did steps 1 - 17 above on - meaning you installed DSL onto this machine as described above, you have booted into DSL via this new hard drive installation as described above, and then installed all the DSL programs you wanted, set all the program settings the way you want them to be, arranged the desktop icons/created new icons the way you want them to appears etc. At this point everything is running on this computer EXACTLY the way you want your installation to be.

From this point, how would 1 (step by step as described above) create a DSL installation CD that when installed in the method outlined in steps 1-14 above WOULD NOT be a plain vanilla installation like you get with a standard DSL CD - BUT INSTEAD would install and be exactly like this computer (new additional settings, programs, etc) you are on in step 17?

Or you can look at it this way.

1st we will call all the programs and settings you get in a plain vanilla installation of DSL from the ISO you download from this site - Programs: "A", "B", and "C" and settings "1", "2", and "3"

By Step 17 in the steps mentioned in our previous post, we now have a DSL installation with the original programs "A", "B", and "C" but we have also added programs "D", "E" and "F" as well as changed settings "1", "2" and "3" to new settings "4", "5", and "6"

How do we create a DSL CD from this point that will have all off these new settings and programs when installed as described in steps 1-14?

Not sure if I understand but if you did a hd drive install and want to save the settings to put on a new remastered CD. Here is how I've done that:

1. After the hd drive install is done do a backup to USB drive or partition.
2. Rename the backup file and add to a mydsl directory with other .tgz, dsl, or uci's when running the remaster script.

Don't forget to turn off the backup feature after making the backup. It's not needed on a harddrive install.
