is it possible to mount the hard drive in dsl so i can delete a file that i can't delete while windows is running. i'm new to linux so i'm not familiar with the commands. thanks!

You could try booting into "safe mode" or into the "Recovery Console" (if you have the Windows XP install cd) and delete the file from there.

It's possible that he's on a FAT32 partition, though.

EDIT: V Or he upgraded and chose not to format his drive. No need to be brusque about it.

It's also possible that he is dual-booting OpenVMS and needs help mounting DKA$200 too, but since 99.5% of the novice users out there have "normal" Windows XP pre-installs to the default NTFS partition I'll keep my answer brief and stick with my original reply.
