I have DSL 0.8.1 on a CompactFlash drive which i've been booting on a Single Board Computer.  I just received a new Single Board Computer and for some reason when I boot the exact same image on that SBC it pauses for almost 30 seconds after the Peguin Image shows up (before any other text comes up).  What would cause this?  Is there anything I can do to speed it up.  I'm trying to design a fast booting OS here for industrial use.

Does the new box have SATA?

If so, you you have anything connected to the sata headers?

If you don't have anything connected to them, it can take a while for the init to timeout on waiting for the sata stuff.

They say if you play a Microsoft CD backwards, you hear satanic messages. That's nothing, cause if you play it forwards, it installs Windows.

Try typing "dmesg" from the command line after your bootup is complete.  The status messages may give you some clue as to why the system is taking so long to boot up.

Even if you solve the problem, DSL will not boot up in 10 or 20 seconds.  By default even on a hd install it does a hardware autodetect routine every time on bootup which will delay (slightly) the bootup process.

The board doesn't have SATA but after you said that I went into the BIOS and disabled the first IDE channel and the problem is solved.. much thanks! :)
