Most of the time when I re-install DSl, I hit choose bandwidth-Synaptic & Synaptice sets up in just a few minutes through a ftp: site. This time it is using a http: site, getting super slow response and playing dead most of the time. It's off the same CD. This time it mentioned downgrading something to 5.0.4 to run. Couldn't catch what it was. I found out I can stop the setup, reboot, start it later & it goes back to where it left off. I'm running DSL internet & getting very, very slow response. any way to fix this or just to download & install the Synaptic package seperately? Sorry for the trouble & thanks for your time & trouble. ???

I got Synaptic to install proper this morning. I upgraded & installed the apps I wanted. Now I have a problem. On my Fully Enhanced Desktop, no icons!! I have tried everything & can't get them back. How do I get my icons back to my enhanced desktop?? Thanks for any help.  :(

Do this:

Go into your /home/dsl/.xtdesktop  directory and look for a *.lnk file that has no matching *.gif or *.png icon file.  If so, delete or move this file to somewhere else or manually install the appropriate icon image file.

Or view the contents of the *.lnk files and see if there are any errors like typos or non-existant icon filenames inside them.

Check the most recently added *.lnk files first.

After you have fixed thing, try shutting down the icons and restarting them from the fluxbox menu.

Thanks. I just got fed up & re-installed. Ran Synaptic again & no problem. Don't know what happened first time. Thanks you for your time.
