Setting up some older PCs for internet use with DSL, I always get the same problem: In the two important apps FireFox and Sylpheed the German keyboard is not working properly despite of set 'lang=de' at boot.
Using FireFox just the important "@" (at) character is lacking and under Sylpheed in the dialogue boxes and address field it is fine but just in the email text body window neither the German special characters "ä" "ö" "ü" "ß" are working nor the "@" (at) sign.
Strangely, under DSL all the other apps don't show such behaviour, apart from the generally missing "EUR" currency sign. With other Linux distros I haven't ever seen such problems with the same apps.
The command:
loadkeys /usr/share/keymaps/qwertz/... (German keymaps)
did not change anything!
Looking forward to suggestions... Thanks in advance!
Hannes
