Do you have the alsadebs.dsl loading along with dsl-dpkg.dsl and gnu-utils.dsl? Make sure you read the info files as cbagger01 suggested!  :)

If you want to try manually from the livecd to test things, use the mydsl icon on the desktop and look in the 'System' section. Install the files I mention above along with alsadebs. Then choose the 'Install ALSA' option in your menu. You should then have sound.
