Newer versions of the dsl-embedded zip file do not contain an *.ISO file inside.

If you want to create a CD-R disk, download the dsl-1.01.iso file from the web site.

Nope

The dsl.iso file contains both the files and the el torito boot sector that is needed for the CD-R disk.

The embedded zip file does not contain this.

I suppose it is possible to get the ISOlinux configure program and build a livecd using the embedded files especially if you have a linux system at your service but my advice is to skip the learning curve for doing this and instead just download the correct file this time.

But you are welcome to do it the hard way if you prefer.
