Well, the other option is to track down apps and games that run natively in Linux. OpenOffice kicks MS Office (I've actually got them running side by side under windoze, basically haven't touched MS Office since installing OO, it does exacly the same thing). The GIMP is quite a powerful rival for Photo$hop. I have UT2004 running natively under DSL (with the XFree86 and nVidia packages installed).
But yeah, there's still a few things that don't have native comparisons, eg. Flash. If I could get Flash running under DSL, then I'd be 90% of the way to fully switching to DSL...
