Okay, I'm new to all this so hopefully someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Have installed DSL to a P166, 32meg ram.

Want to run Pure-FTP. So, I have added it via myDSL and also the GTK2 mentioned as needed.

Okay, I 'Update to GTK2' (Seems to work) then I click on Pure-FTP in the menu.

Nothing happens.

How do I get this to work?

Look at Top (System >> Top) and see if pftpd is running.

Pure FTP is a daemon, not an application.

Thanks for that. Found http://www.pureftpd.org/README and that lead the way. Now have PFTPd running on startup using my dynamic dns settings :)

Here's a weird one, though. I set it to use the port range 1500 to 2000 for passive mode, however when connecting externally it seems to ignore that and connect on ports >10000. What makes it weird is these aren't forwarded through my router yet it works. I then left only port 21 forwarded through NAT and all seems well. Does this make sense to anyone? When havng set up FTP on my Windows box I definately had to set up port forwarding to get it working.

I made sure it was connecting in passive mode, too.

How does PFTPd manage it?
