Hi,

After installing DSL to my hard drive I am unable to install myDSL extensions. It gets all the way with the download it gives me an error message "Extension not loaded. Download/Checksum Error". I also seem unable to save any files, it seems as though my disk may be write protected or I don't have the permissions to write to the disk. How do I solve this as I am a bit of a noob to linux.

Also, would anyone know of a beginners guide to using DSL or linux in general?

Thanks in advance,

Simon

Dsl 1.0 with gnu-utils.dsl right?

Get dsl1.0.1 - there was some kind of problem with gnu-utils and dsl 1.0
Where/what files are you trying to save?  If you have installed by "frugal" method (ie. still running from a compressed image) then you need to put what you want saved in the filetool.lst (as it says in the dillo screen that opens up when you first boot dsl)

FYI,

DSL 1.0 hd install with "enhanced install" should also experience the same bug that people with DSL1.0 + gnu-utils.dsl have been experiencing.

An upgrade to 1.01 will fix the problem, or you can do the fix yourself by patching a file.  Search the forums.

I also get this error if I try to download to a directory that I don't have permissions to.  When you first log in to DSL, you are user dsl, a normal user with normal permissions.  Your home directory is /home/dsl, and you have write permission to that directory.  /tmp should also work.  To make a directory writable for dsl, type 'sudo chmod 777 directoryname'.  Maybe more information than you needed.
