when you right click on the desktop, then in the menu click on apps, tools, install to hard drive.
i should the guide you thru the install.
Even tho I jsut did ithis, I can;t remember exactly what happens during tthe install.
If you can partition the drive, set about 800 meg to a linux partition and the balance, 400 meg to swap.
if there isn;t an option to do this, I would seriously suggest you reboot the cd, open a root shell, and use cfdisk to delete all your presnt partitions, if you don;t care what'son the disk, and creat a 800 meg  primary, type 83 (linux) and th ebalalnce to a swap (type 82) partition.
Then re run the hd install. install lilo when it asks to the mbr.
you should then have a functional hdd install with TONS of room to add apps as you need em.

Once you're in DSL, you can change the "style" of the desktop (the background and menu colours) by right-clicking the desktop, go to "Desktop / Styles", and you'll get a whole list of styles you can choose from.
Or later you can download and add other styles, like the "rogue" theme! :D

RoGuE_StreaK, that sounded like a plug. :)
Where can I view or download the rogue theme you mentioned ?

Well here's where I'm at......
A few weeks back I did a complete wipe on the hd and then did a low level format. I don't believe that sets any partitions, so unless setting the partition for DSL & the swap can be done thru DSL pop up menu I'm kinda stuck. I'll look around but I don't think I have a bootable disk/dos anywhere. Not too mention I don't believe I've fdisc'd anything in the last several years.
I'd like to have it installed on my hd but it looks like I might just have to be content running it from the cd.... ???

I've not done a HD install, but if DSL runs and you can get web access, your're not too bad off.
Here is the HowTo:
http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/dsl-hd-install.html

It mentions cfdisk and fdisk, neither or which I've used, but both of which DSL has, and searching the forum for these as keywords yielded a HUGE amount of results. This should hopefully get you pointed in the right direction.
You might also want to post your current predicament in the HD install category with the word partitioning in the title. That could get your problem more exposure to people with better answers.
It's not a solution, but hopefully this helps some.

'Twas!  :D
It's in the MyDSL repository off the main DSL page, under "themes".  Just follow this link, lots of themes made by fellow DSLer's.  Or if you install Whitebox (from somewhere else in the repositpry?), this should let you easily tweak theme colours, backgrounds, etc. without having to try to figure out the text file structure...
