I am completely new to linux.
I had no problems installing DSL on an old 200 MHz Pentium machine. I am trying to get my printer working (see post on printers section). I have downloaded CUPS, Foomatic and pnp2ppa on a windows machine and stuck them on a USB drive.
However, if I mount /dev/sda1 (or even /dev/cdrom with a Linux Format coverdisk) from the Flubox desktop I am denied access to the contents of each drive.
I cannot claim any familiarity with emelFM other than some general messing around with the file system.

My ultimate aim is to kick the microsoft habit.
With this (my first linux) machine I only wish to have an secure box on my wireless home network running firefox, and a few simple apps for my four year old

Open up a terminal, log into root (run "sudo su") and try to run "mount -o rw /dev/sda1 <insert mountpoint here, usually something like /mnt/sda1.  Note that you have to actually make the directory '/mnt/sda1'.  So you'll also have to run 'mkdir /mnt/sda1'>".
