I've downloaded Opera to my HD install of DSL V-0.7.2 All the files are decompressed in /home/dsl/Opera. I would like to know how to make a link  from the desktop to the appropriate Opera executable file.

Do the following:
cd ~/.xtdesktop
make a new file (with vi or whatever editor you like) like this:
Code Sample
table Icon
 Type: Program
 Caption: Opera Browser
 Command: /home/dsl/Opera/Opera-bin
 Icon: .xtdesktop/opera.gif
 X: 295
 Y: 98
end

Then do 'killall xtdesk' and 'xtdesk &' to restart it.
