You need to look under the configuration menu, under the "Preferences for current account."  Look at the send tab, and select the edit button.
Type Disposition-Notification-To into the header entry box (there is no pull down option for it) and the return email address as the value.  Then hit the add button.  All of your emails will now have a return receipt, so you need to turn it off if you don’t want it.

I wrote the mail address of my account as return addres I sent a test mail to another mail addres then I receive mail into Sylpheed (must I receive with another Mail Program?) and nothing happens I check mail in the sender account but I do not receive any notification....Perhaps I must wait until somebody can make thunderbird.dsl LOL
Do not worry I seldom use return receipts It was an speciall case
