I just got two DSL 1.3 disk in the mail.... I tried to boot them up but it freezes.... it gets to the "to boot dsl hit the <enter> key" or whatever it says.. and then I hit enter... then  it goes to the screen where theres a penguin at the top of a black screen and a little blinking box.... I've used Knoppix before... but when DSL gets to this screen it freezes... I've tried waiting a while... but it just doesn't do anything else.... do you know what I mean? any suggestions on how I can fix it?

thx in advance....

I would try booting with the 'failsafe' bootcode, if you are able to boot than you can mix and match some of the following. These are the codes that make up 'failsafe'.

dsl vga=normal atapicd nosound noapic noacpi acpi=off noscsi noapm nousb nopcmcia nofirewire noagp nomce nodhcp

Hope this helps.

ok, when booting DSL gives pauses at a screen where you can enter boot codes. If you press enter or you dont press anything it will precede without any. At this prompt I would try to type 'failsafe'. If it boots up ok using that than you can try from the list of boot codes that are provided in the previous post. When you type 'failsafe' it uses all of these commands, so if that works you can mix and match them to try and figure out what your specific problem is since you probably dont need all of them.
