Hello,

after installing and setting up my hp 815c printer (DSL 2.0) via a printserverbox I'm able to print out a test-page. What to do now to be able to use this device in my applications, i.a print a textfile out of "BEAVER", print content of any internet page (i.e firefox...) ??

It's not possible to print by the command
lp filename
but a lpstat -d tells me that my hp815c is the default.

Any help ?? Thanx a lot in advance!

I think there is some "I" step that is very important.

Read the docs for details:

Hello .... and thanks for answering!
...but I've done this already and set my printer up like described there, as I mentioned it's possible to print a testpage - no prob.

Anyway, a new idea why I can't printout i.e from firefox ??

Thanks.

I have the identical problem using cups with my Epson LQ-300 printer.
Can only print test page ok. Trying to print otherwise I get:

cat file | lpr
Status Information:
sending job 'dsl@box+228' to missingprinter@localhost
connecting to 'localhost', attempt 1
connected to 'localhost'
requesting printer missingprinter@localhost
job 'dsl@box+228' transfer to missingprinter@localhost failed
error 'NONZERO RFC1179 ERROR CODE FROM SERVER' with ack 'ACK_FAIL'
 sending str '^Bmissingprinter' to missingprinter@localhost
error msg: 'spool queue for 'missingprinter' does not exist on server box'
error msg: '   non-existent printer or you need to run 'checkpc -f'

lpq
Printer: missingprinter@box - ERROR: spool queue for 'missingprinter' does not exist on server box

lpstat -d
system default destination: Epson

Any help appreciated!

CUPS is not part of DSL proper. Please discuss that in the MyDSL Community Area under System.

As for the other, Beaver and Firefox.
I have no problems with either.

Have you started the printer lpd daemon? The control panel should show that the Printing/lpd button depressed.

With some apps you need to specify your printer by the name that you assigned when you setup your printer.

In fireox under printing printer there is a Properties button. There I entered my print command. Using the default printer name like this:

lpr -h -Plp

works fine.

Also, you can export your printer as suggested in the docs.
