I'd like to attach a Konica-Minolta PagePro 1350W USB Laser printer to a frugal install of DSL (persistent home and opt directories).

Everytime I try to set up a printer that isn't an HP or Epson in linux my head spins, the room goes dark, and it's not long before a raving lunatic takes over my body.

I've tried the Printer Setup function and could not find my model. I don't think it emulates anything else, so I aborted the setup.

Here's what I've found.  There is a PPD file that I can get from LinuxPrinting.org
that is suppose to work with this printer.  Trouble is, I have no idea what to do with it once I download it.

I'd like to be able to use this printer from DSL. Do you just put the PPD in some "spooler" directory and then start the daemon?  Could it really be that simple?

As an aside... These PagePro 1350W laser printers are inexpensive (this one was about US$50 after rebates) and they have pretty good print quality (yes... I've seen the output it can do with other operating systems).

ps.. I don't have the cups.dsl installed since I'm not sure if I'd need it or not....

CUPS + ppd file is probably the way to go.

cbagger01....  CUPS + PPD + min12xxw(driver) + GCC1.dsl compiler + foomatic.rip +careful study of linuxprinting.org website + 3 days of hacking around + Bourbon + ice andf POOF!!!. I darn near fell off my chair when the printer fired up after about the 100th test print.

Now I'm afraid to shut the computer down.  I've mucked around with so much stuff I'm not sure what I changed.

I do have a smug sense of satisfaction in knowing that I figured out how to get this printer to work. Now if I can make it a repeatable process that would be great.

If you ever are able to reproduce and document your installation process, please post the info here.

I am sure that it would be a great help to others that are in a similar situation, even if they do not have the same exact printer model as you.

Good idea... With my memory the way it is, if I don't document a process I'll be doomed to  re-inventing it in six months.

The printer has been working each time I boot so I've gotten lucky....   I will post a "How I did it..." here when I get a little time to write it up.
